Approximately 300 people attended author Lawrence P. Gooley’s presentation, “Tracking Robert Garrow,” at the Johnstown Eagles Club on October 2, 2014. The presentation was based on Gooley’s best-selling book, Terror in the Adirondacks: The True Story of Serial Killer Robert F. Garrow.
The event also raised money for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Association and the NYS Operation Safe Child program. Members of the Johnstown Eagles Club and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Association were extremely helpful in getting seating, equipment, etc. set up for the event. In addition, Brady Putman of Party Toons D.J. Service did a great job setting up the sound system.
Among the attendees were members of the team that participated in the 1973 Garrow manhunt; a witness who testified during Garrow’s 1974 trial; several camp owners who were restricted from accessing their properties during the manhunt; and Garrow’s final victim, who survived a gunshot by Garrow in 1978.
Audience members seemed to genuinely enjoy the presentation. In fact, when given the option of taking a break at the halfway point, they declined, choosing instead to continue without an intermission.
